Mould inhalation cause innate immune activation, neural, cognitive and emotional dysfunction

Summary of research and findings

  • Data shows that exposure to both toxic and non toxic mould spores activated a central neural immune response with concomitant cognitive and emotional dysfunction

  • Inhaled mold nano particles carry the additional risk of directly accessing the brain via olfactory pathways

  • Exposing drosophila of the semiochemical caused significant loss of dopamine neurons, decreased dopamine levels, and initiated onset of Parkinson’s like symptoms suggesting exposure to molds producing this type of chemical may be a risk factor for Parkinson’s disease

  • Roughly 25% of Americans carry major histocompatability complex gene variants that make them susceptible to long term inflammation following mould exposure including auto immune problems and changes in the brain structure / function

  • Peripheral blood mononuclear cells from mold exposed people showed significantly different. Patterns of Cytokine and chemokine secretion than those of unexposed controls
